This
project was brought about through the involvement of Clover
Park Technical College staff with the Far West Skill Standards
Project involving educators and business representatives from
Washington, Oregon and California. The partners of this project
anticipate that be developing Skill Standards for retail sales
associate, they will help to generate interesting a retail
career choice.
Retail Skill Standards Development Process:
Major job functions and related tasks secured through the
Far West Project and research of other projects were put in
the format used by Washington State and mailed to 980 retail
business throughout Washington for review and validation.
The input from the professionals was used to determine the
tasks most important to Washington State. In addition, academic
and employability skills were leveled. Finally, critical work
functions and key activities were validated through a survey
process.
Retail Sales Associate Critical Work Functions:
A) Maintain Appearance of Department/Store; B) Sell and Promote
Products; C) Monitor Inventory; D) Build and Retain Customer
Relations; E) Risk Management; F) Support Activities.
